Development and Community Outreach Manager: 

The Development and Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing both fundraising efforts (development) and external communication strategies for an organization, including managing donor relationships, crafting compelling messaging, and coordinating public relations activities to secure funding and promote the organization’s mission and brand; often working closely with the executive team to identify funding opportunities and implement comprehensive communication plans. They will coordinate fundraising activities with communication strategies, including writing donor materials, managing social media, creating marketing campaigns, and maintaining donor databases, to effectively promote an organization’s mission and secure funding from potential donors.

Key responsibilities include:

    • Drafting grant proposals and donor appeals.
    • Cultivating relationships with potential donors through outreach and networking.
    • Managing donor databases and tracking giving trends.
    • Assisting with event planning and execution for fundraising purpose.
    • Developing and executing communication plans across various channels including our website, social media, press releases, newsletters, and marketing materials to engage the public and promote the organization’s initiatives.
    • Developing and implementing communication plans across various channels (website, social media, email marketing)
    • Writing engaging content like newsletters, press releases, and website updates
    • Developing and implementing plans to optimize revenue streams from our consignment boutique and services
    • Designing marketing materials and collateral
    • Managing the organization’s brand identity and messaging
    • Tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fundraising and communications
    • Interfacing with clients and the general public who visit our space in the Asheville Mall, providing information about our mission, services and events.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Proven track record of successful fundraising in a nonprofit environment.
  • Understanding of marketing and public relations principles.
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and social media platforms
  • Experience with donor databases and CRM systems
  • Understanding of fundraising strategies and donor cultivation
  • Graphic design
  • 2 years job experience
  • Awareness and sensitivity to the unique needs of people on the autism spectrum and cultural sensitivity especially in regards to LGBTQIA+ and diverse socio-economic backgrounds

 

About the Job: 

  • This is a salaried, 1-year grant funded position with opportunity to extend depending on the availability of future funding.
  • This staff person will work 20 hours per week onsite at our location in the Asheville Mall, with a regular work schedule set with the Executive Director. Meetings in the community will be a regular part of this position, as well as occasional weekend and evening meeting.
  • Arms Around ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)’s mission is to support the autism community through self-care and development of executive functioning skills, promoting the growth of the community as a whole. Having been in operation for almost 10 years, Arms Around ASD has grown to provide over 40 unique services with the help of over 80 regular volunteers. The organization fills an important niche in the Autism-spectrum care community by supporting autistic people, their families, caregivers, and other professionals who work with them. A wholly unique model, no one else in the south, and possibly the country, provides this wide range of services for the autistic community. From exercise and movement classes, social opportunities, cooking and gardening classes, acupuncture, massage, healthcare, relationship coaching and other key skills for independent living tailored to autistic people and their entire support network.
